old miss diary

When the country went “crazy” over Winter Sonata, I did not understand the fascination. It felt like I was the only one who wasn’t humming the Winter Sonata soundtrack. I’m sure that fact that I have never watched the show until today has something to do with my view about the show.

Over the years, I have watched many Koreans movies. I love their romantic comedies and horror movies. The most memorable is “Telephone”, a horror movie. The little girl, aged between 6-8 years old, who played a character possessed by a spirit, is REALLY GOOD. At one scene, where she was possessed, she seduced the dad and she did it so well it freaked me out. The thought about a daughter seducing the dad is one thing but for a girl her age to know how to seduce a man is scary! You should watch the movie not because of the plot or storyline (because it’s predictable and a little boring) but because of that little girl.

Last night, I watched another Korean movie that I really enjoyed and now it is in my favourite movie list. Old Miss Diary. Click the link to read the synopsis and review. Note: For some weird reason the characters’ family relation differs but the storyline is still the same.

My favourite scene/line (in no particular order):

1. Mija (the heroine) plucking her armpit hair because she is bored

2. When the three ladies went to a lingerie shop to buy themselves pink underwear, the younger lady found an elephant-faced g-string, put it on her face and pretended she is an elephant

3. They way the three ladies felt and walked wearing the pink underwear

4. “… when I kissed him, it felt as if every smile in my body is being sucked out” – (translated from the Malay subtitle) after one of the grandaunt courageously kissed the man she has been secretly admiring

5. Producer Ji (the hero) woke up at Mija’s house sleeping with Mija’s Uncle. At breakfast, Mija entered the room looking like she just survived a tornado, sat down, finished a big bottle of mineral water, sucked the air from the bottle making it flat (I do not know how else to describe this bit) and burp grossly only to find Producer Ji sitting next to her

6. Realizing Producer Ji was next to her, she took the flatten bottle of mineral water and blow into it to make it a whole bottle again

I just love the simplicity and honesty of the movie.

No matter how old you are, everyone is looking for love.

The way Professor Jia and Mija fell in love/felt the chemistry is hilarious. Sweet but very gross.

Watch it. Astro is repeating the show this month.

这将是另一个长周末

(This will be another long weekend)
When I am bored or stressed out, I go to Google Translate and become a woman of many languages. Now I can really say I know how to swear in many languages. *evil laugh*

I just want everyone to know, if I lose my sanity one day, it’ll be because of work.

To my lawyer friends, please sue him (Mr Wuss) for mental, psychological and spiritual harassment. Terima kasih.

I had a massage last night and it was GOOD. Like I told my friends, it’s not one of those soothing and relaxing massage but one of those strong, firm massage that makes you feel tonnes lighter. Yes, there were few spots where she massaged and I wanted to kick her off me and the same time laugh myself silly. It was a wonderful mix feeling and I think I understand a little bit, just a little larr, why some people are into this pain thingy. Be it in whatever form there is.

It is a natural high but we must have a limit to what crazy things we can and would do no?

The therapist was a small but strong lady. I knew she practically used all her energy because she was catching her breath through half of the session. *head hangs in shyness*When I was making ugly faces because of the pain/ticklishness, instead of lessening the pressure, she told me to just suck it up. I wasn’t offended but I did found it very funny.

She also commented on something else which I don’t think is appropriate for public viewing.

Is too much massage bad for you? If I didn’t have budget constraint, I’d probably have a session once a week. *whistles*

I know some people think it is a waste of money or even worry they cannot handle the “pain”. The pain bit, you could always tell the therapist (except the one I had last night!) to lessen the pressure. They will oblige; no worry. And it doesn’t make you less of man if you can’t handle the pressure. *whistles harder*

As for the money, it is a very sensitive and subjective topic but my motto is, “if you’re not going to pamper yourself, who will?” Some people may think that is a very self-centred statement, but hey, with the crazy life I (and everyone else) have to face and fight everyday, you need to rejuvenate to survive. Besides, it is only RM40 per session. I just need to work harder with my sponsored posts. *winks*

my son the superstar

Is this what they call fashion?
Really? Cauze I don't see it.
and I don't think age has anything to do with it

shopping habit

What is it about Malaysian and supermarkets/hypermarkets?

It doesn’t matter what time of the day or what day of the month, it is always crowded and the line at the check-out counter is frustrating!

When I was in KL I used to kill time walking around supermarkets/hypermarkets especially after work because I had to wait for my sister. My other favourite spots are Starbucks or MPH but I feel shy if I have to be there for more than an hour on my own. I dislike going to the shoe store or boutiques because why would I want to tempt myself with things I can never afford or fit into. It’s depressing. So my third favourite to-kill-time destination then is the Giant Supermarket at Sunway Pyramid. I would take 15 minutes just to decide which flavoured biscuit I want to get, because I have the time to do so. I’d do price, ingredient and packaging comparison before I decided which brand to buy. It was a very joyous process.

Anyway, I noticed during every single visit that place is always crowded with people. Are they there to shop or are they there just to kill time like me? I will never know but I assumed that’s the KL lifestyle. Open a 24-hour hypermarket and you will still get plenty of customers.

So, I moved back to KK. With KK being a laid-back kind of place, I didn’t think you’d get many people in the supermarkets especially during mid month. But NNNoooOO. You still get a lot of people doing their grocery shopping and to make it worse, the small hypermarkets only make it more congested. 10.00am to 10.00pm doesn’t make any difference to this people.

And I swear people lost their manners the moment they step unto supermarkets/hypermarkets. *tsk tsk tsk*

What is the Malaysian shopping habit? Do we buy groceries in bulk? Or do we buy them when we ran out of supplies only? I don’t know about the rest but my family buys in bulk because:

a) It’s cheaper to buy in bulk

b) We are practically a kampung (village) with big appetite, so more mouth to feed

c) It’s convenient than to go out every other day for groceries

d) Save on petrol and parking ticket

Maybe we Malaysian are well-off and the economy doesn’t affect us that much despite the moaning and swearing every time the price of petrol, alcohol and tobacco increases. Maybe it is all a show only.

But I do feel the pinch of the increments. Or is it just me?

little things

I thought I could do my victory dance once I completed my assignments.
Before I could even start, some people have already ruined it for me.

*claps hand sarcastically*

I love sunset.

Those few minutes before the sun set, the world transforms into an enchanting magical recital of colours. It’s as if I am transported to a different world far, far away from civilization. During those few minutes, I am able to forget the headaches and the heartaches.

It’s weird I know. It is after all an every day (almost, unless it rains) event.

I must share this photo courtesy of Alvin Ting from Chegu Carol’s blog.
The first time I looked at it I was blown away. Nice kan?

The photo reminds me of life.

The endless (looks like) bridge represent life, a journey.

Most times we just look straight ahead and focus on getting to the end of that bridge.

We tend to forget about the little things life has to offer.

Like the way my dad’s face lit up when he talks about Ekiel, or how my youngest sister smiles in her sleep and even the way my mom gets so emotional watching her Indonesian soap operas.

Those little things always makes my day a lot better.
