will the real Kylie please stand up?

“I cannot believe that Kylie Minogue is coming to perform in KK!”

Of course you can’t because she isn’t.

The 10th Palliative Care Association Dinner & Concert IS featuring 100% Kylie. That is true. They are. 100% Kylie is a TRIBUTE BAND TO KYLIE MINOGUE. Now, before you go complaining at the newspaper hotline like some people, take a deep breath and listen.

Watching 100% Kylie performing is, well not as good as the real thing, but definitely almost as good. Lucy Holmes (LH), Kylie Minogue’s (KM) lookalike and double performs with 2 of KM’s original dancers, who by the way will be using KM’s original dance/performance routine. The costumes LH will be wearing are also KM’s original costumes. 100% Kylie is even acknowledged by KM’s management team and her family.

KM also tweeted her seal of approval and declared LH is her favorite and best Kylie act ever!

It wasn’t PCA’s intention to mislead anyone. The KM’s tribute band is called 100% Kylie which they used to announce and promote their event. What are they supposed to call them, The Not So 100%, 100% Kylie?

Besides people, if KM herself is coming, why would PCA put 100% Kylie rather than Kylie Minogue? Plus, it was written and explained in all the newspaper that it is a tribute band. Doesn’t anyone read the newspaper besides the horoscope and the lottery result section?

Think about it.

On a different note, I am sure you know what the Palliative Care Association is about but for those who doesn’t, Palliative Care attends to those terminally ill cancer patients outside the ICU units by providing equipment, beds and medication at the patient’s home for FREE. They also provide counseling and fellowship not only for the patients but the patient’s family as well to accept the inevitable. You and I know how much money is involved to do all this, therefore, PCA with the help of their sponsors organized this charity dinner and show to collect funds. Every year, PCA needs about RM400,000.00 to operate their organizations and soon, they will also assist other [non cancer] terminally ill patients too.

For more information, google them.

This year, a generous donor donated two special collector’s items watches, a Presidential Rolex and a Gerald Genta to the PCA which will be given out as the prizes for the PCA raffles. Now, for those who do not know what raffle is, it is another word for lucky draw.

Anyway, the lucky draw ticket is sold at RM20.00 a ticket and is available for sale. No, you do not have to attend the dinner to win. If you’re one of the lucky winners; the Chief Minister of Sabah will call you during the draw to inform you that you won. Cool huh? How often will the CM call you? Unless of course, you’re related or work with him.

Stop being a smarty pant ok? *grins*

With everything that is happening around us, we should come together and help those who need our assistance. Whatever your theory is about why things happened to some people, put it aside. Life is short. Be nice. A day without Starbucks, 10 – 3 (alcohol) or couple of days without nicotine is good for you anyway.

If you want a ticket, email me. Or if you think I am trying to sell of my portion of the tickets, which I am *smiles*, you can call the PCA directly at 088 231505.

Those who are going for the dinner and concert, see you there. Don’t be shy. Say hie ya.

Happy Mommies' Day

I think Ekiel was more excited about Mother’s Day than I am. He brought back a paper flower and a heart shaped card from school last Friday and proudly present them to me. I know he was pleased with himself because he was giving me the half crooked smile with the twinkle in his eyes. *grins* I could hear him scampering inside before I got in to the house. I imagine he was looking for the flower and card which he dumped after coming back from school. I know my boy so well.

Yesterday, in church, the senior citizens sold flowers for the occasion as well as to collect funds for their home. When he and my sister went to get the church bulletin, he saw the flowers and asked my sister to buy them but my sister did not bring her wallet with her. They came back and he asked for money to buy them but when they went there, the counter was closed because the mass was about to start. He was so upset, he stomped his feet and sat with his legs folded and he put his hands together with both index fingers pointing outwards on his forehead. He looked as if he was in deep meditation and before I know it, he fell asleep.

When the mass was almost over, I woke him up and told him we will go and see if the flower counter is still there. With his eyes still shut, he replied angrily, “They’re closed mommy! No more flowers for you!” but there was an announcement that the flower is still available so I told Ekiel that. The moment he heard that, he smiled, opened his eyes widely and jumped on his feet.

My brother bought one flower for my mom but my son gave it to her and insisted that the flower is from him. He chose a red rose for her and a pink one for me. The funny thing is he won’t let me put my flower down because according to Ekiel, “No more love afterwards”.

Before I had Ekiel, I always wanted to have children. I would love them and care for them and it would be rewarding and all. But I never I imagine to experience this overwhelming love and joy just by being Ekiel’s mommy and for that I am humbled.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the beautiful mommies and soon-to-be mommies out there!!!
You are the GREATEST!

Monday morning

When people starts talking about karma, I’ll nod my head in understanding and most time wonder if that person is even listening to themselves. What goes around comes around surely but there are those who make other people’s life a living hell but for some twisted reasons, are spared from the whole karma system. I may not know ALL their sufferings and what not, but COME ON, just because someone said the obvious about your idiotic behavior, you cannot be pulling the “I don’t know what I did to them to deserve this” card on me.

That is always the case no?

I wish I can explain to my son how the life works because as a 32 year old, I still haven’t gotten a clue.

Life is like one of those reality shows. A contestant performs poorly every week but is still in the competition while the outstanding ones are voted off. I can put up with contestants who are humble and is willing to accept the harsh criticism from the judges but most of them have serious attitude problem which is a BIG turn off. So do not be surprised to hear me chanting certain names during elimination night.

Anyway, I am happy to share that Ekiel has recovered from his cough. Lucky thing I didn’t listen to the idiotic doctor kan?

People like that should not be given the responsibility to care for someone’s life.

new world

When Ekiel told me he wants to move to another world because this one is rotten, I cannot help but to wonder if he has learned this weird thinking from me. I have many times wish out loud that I could move to the moon for many many reasons and lately it involves people whose life mission is to make mine terrible.

Although Ekiel will only turn five this 23rd, I have been exposing Ekiel to the sad things that is happening around us. Like when we watch news and I would explain to Ekiel about those unfortunate people and emphasize how blessed he is. Yes, I also gave the somewhat same “kids in Africa died because they have nothing to eat and here you are wasting your food and being very fussy about what you eat” speech my mom gave me while I was growing up.

I worry about my son’s stubborn, selfish and egoistic attitude. Although I notice he behaves better in school, at home he is a little monster. Ask my neighbor, I bet they can already imitate my high-pitched nagging, which Ekiel complains “Mommy, you’re giving me a headache!” He sometimes protests that other kids do it as well, but I told him that if his friends eat boogers, will he eat boogers as well? Don’t ask me why this metaphor but it seems to work better than jumping off the bridge speech my mom is famous for.

I don’t know if this is the right or even appropriate way. However, I must admit that my mom’s 32 years of nagging has somewhat become my voice of conscious. Especially, the friends jumping off the bridge thingy.

So Ezekiel Isaiah Stephen, unless you change, get use to the nagging. If you want to move to a new world, then go to school, do your homework and study hard. You can be the first scientist to find a new world for you and your mommy to stay away from crazy crazy people. If you want to, of course. No, this is not an attempt to stop you from being the world champion F1 driver. *whistles*

doctor?

After two weeks, my son is still coughing his little lungs out. He finished the medication from the private doctor so I took him to the government clinic for a different opinion.

Since the government clinic is not “officially” opened on Saturday, they only had two registration counters, two pharmacy counter and two doctors are available. I can totally understand this. Even when cueing to register and when it was finally my turn, the doctor called the lady and she took about 10 minutes to entertain him, I understand. Even when she had no change for RM10.00, I understand. What I don’t and WILL NEVER understand is their numbering system.

The government clinic’s numbering system is a matter of luck and good timing. It doesn’t matter you arrive before the sun rises because they will assigned you to rooms alternately based on the available doctors. April is a totally crazy month and somehow I ended up with the doctor in room 17 and that’s when everything just went irritatingly weird.

The doctor in room 17 takes forever to treat his patients. It’s not like he’s with them long, no. It’s the time in between the patient that is slow. The other doctor in room 16 was quick. People were going in and out of the room, while the rest of us waited patiently. After more than an hour, I was getting really annoyed. Babies and children were crying. The senior couple in front of me fell asleep. Ekiel wanted to go home and watch his cartoons. When Ekiel asked me why it is taking forever, I told him to ask the doctor. He refused. Hee.

Finally we went in the room and what happened in the room, in my opinion, was crazy.

He asked me what is wrong with Ekiel so I explained to him about Ekiel’s coughing and what not while he uses the stethoscope and placed it on Ekiel’s chest.

He asked me if there’s any asthma history in the family. I told him about my asthma attacked days but it stopped when I turned 10 years old. Then the doctor asked me the stupidest question. “I think your son needs an inhaler. What do you think?” I stared at the doctor blankly. If he was someone I know well, I’d give him my infamous one eye brow raised, a loud “HEH?” and a smack on the head. How does one, with no medical knowledge answer that?

I nicely told him I am not the doctor and asked his opinion. He quickly tells me Ekiel needs to use the inhaler. He will need to take two types of medicine. One BLUE and the other orange. He continues tell me that the green medicine needs to be taken four times a day. WTH? Where did the green medicine come from? So I asked him if he meant the blue pill and he nodded and continued to say that the blue pill stops when Ekiel stops coughing. The orange one needs to be taken three times continuously. I blinked my eyes a couple of times and asked him if continuously means forever. The doctor said Ekiel cannot stop taking the medication. I blinked my eyes again. I asked him there is any side effect to this and he tell me there is. He also told me Ekiel would need to gargle and wash his face every time he takes the pills to prevent fungus infection.

WTH?

All the doctor did was put the stethoscope on his chest a couple of time and he is prescribing my son with permanent medication, which comes with side effects. Is that how you diagnose asthma? He doesn’t have symptoms like wheezing, shortness of breath and he is still like energiser bunny despite the cough.

I looked at the doctor and I all I saw was a guy who has no idea what he was doing. He didn’t look confident about his prescription and was babbling when I asked him question about the medicine. So I asked him if there is any alternative. He looked at me as if I have accused him of giving my son asthma. I told him I am not comfortable giving him a medication that he has to rely on for the rest of his life as he is only five years old.

What I really wanted to say was, “HELLO??? DO YOU REALLY THINK I WOULD LET YOU SCREW UP MY SON’S LIFE JUST BECAUSE YOU PUT YOUR BLOODY STETHOSCOPE ON HIS CHEST A COUPLE OF TIMES? I DON’T THINK SO!!!

He didn’t sound too happy when he tells me he could prescribe cough syrup and stronger antibiotics for Ekiel to which I immediately agree. He reluctantly cancelled the inhaler medication and wrote the cough syrup. He told me to make sure I bring Ekiel back if he doesn’t get any better.Like duh.

I don’t think I did anything wrong when I ask for another alternative. So what if I pissed him off, but hey, this involves my son. Imagine all the other children who are now dependent on that inhaler no thanks to him.

If we cannot trust doctors, then who else can we trust? *sighs*

I'm back

How are you my long neglected blog?

Crazy CRAZY week.

I don’t know if it’s the weather, hormones or something I ate, I was walking around with dark clouds above my head with occasional rain, thunder storms, tornadoes, hail and everything weather related.

The only good thing about this “episode” is that people leave me alone but because life is sometime a big joke, there are those who just won’t stop. BUGGING me. If only you could see the things I did to them, in my head of course, it’s not pretty.

Ekiel just got better from fever and eye infection. One a good day, he would just chew the panadol without much question but he can be difficult when he wants to. Like the other day, I had to persuade him to take his medicine for 30 minutes. He cried and he cried when suddenly he smiles and take his medicine without a fuss. WTH.

I managed to put a drop of the eye medicine in one eye. Shocked [from the cooling effect], he starts rolling them like in the cartoons. He said it hurts and now completely refuses to take them. He has so many distracting tricks up his sleeve.

Ekiel: Mommy, what’s wrong with your eye?

Me: Why?

Ekiel: There something in your eye

Me: *wipes* My mascara cair already waiting for you

Ekiel: Oh, I thought you want to die already

He is still coughing though. His cough is so bad sometimes, I freaked out. With that much of coughing, it’s amazing that he didn’t cough his lungs or any of his internal organs out.

Last Sunday, three brothers from the age of four to eight came over to my house while their parents (parents’ friend) went to do their thing.

Now, I know boys are tough and rough, but when these three boys [and their two older sisters] fight, I get scared. They threw their punches hard and most time at the fragile places. So when the eldest and youngest boy was fighting over a broken toy, they started hitting each other when the eldest kicked the youngest’s balls. The poor boy came to me while holding his family jewel and started crying. I looked at Ekiel and he was just standing there all big eyed and with his mouth open. He then ran to me and said, “Mommy, see, I am not so naughty now kan?” I just looked at him and nodded. He does have a point but I was not going to let him know that. He then told the eldest, not to hit the youngest and said, “No blessing that, you hit M”.

I tried to distract everyone by having a contest. Anyone who sings to me will get a surprise gift. Ekiel said he wants to sing the ABCs. Now, Ekiel has this bad habit for being a very sore loser. He doesn’t like it when he loses or when other people make fun of him when he doesn’t know stuff. Those three boys would surely make fun of Ekiel as he is not very good with his alphabet so I crossed my fingers and braced myself for the drama.

When he managed to sing the ABCs perfectly, I did my happy dance. I didn’t realise how much he has learned in school. Only last night I realised he now recognises the entire alphabet. *claps hand*

My Mom: T O M Tom

Ekiel: T O M Tom

My Mom: One more time. T O M Tom

Ekiel: T O M Tom

My Mom: How you spell TOM?
Ekiel: S T C A R S Tom.

So okay, he needs to work on the spelling bit. The funny thing is, he is at a phase where he spells everything he sees. Yes, none of the spelling is correct and after a while it can be annoying. He is also irritating when he corrects you correcting him.

Me: C O W cow

Ekiel: Mommy, that is wrong. C is for cat.

Aiseyman.

It's obvious, Ekiel has no talent in drawing. Yes people, that is his drawing of a nose
