Fooled again.

I don’t know what happened but my friend volunteered me for another task at the TM meeting this week. Again. I was busily editing my photos in the computer when she walked in and told me I need to volunteer myself this week. Instead of telling her to jump off from the top floor, I told her “Okay larr if no one else can do it.” *banging head on wall* I SO hate this side of me.

I was the timer in last week’s meeting. It was a little frustrating at first when the indicator light was no where in sight and I had to make do by knocking a glass of water when the time is up. After I finished explaining my task and trying to knock ‘loudly’ on the glass, the KK TM member gave me colored cards instead because no one could hear my knocks. She then told me to start again just in case some people get confused with those cards. *rolls eyes* If they don’t get it, then they seriously have a problem.

While I was explaining those damn cards, the indicator light was delivered safely. Thank goodness they didn’t ask me to start over again. My happiness didn’t last very long when the stop light didn’t functioned as it should be. *sigh* Is it a sign from the universe? Then the engineering guy came and solved my problem. *clap clap clap* So clever.

This week, I am the Table Topic person. All I need to do is ask questions and pick whoever I dislike and make them answer my questions. *evil laugh* It is a pretty easy task if you ask me, but I just don’t want these people to use me as replacement whenever they could not find someone to do the tasks. They better put a good word in my appraisal next month. *whistle*

From what I hear and observe, my journey with this company would be a complicated one with a lot of arse kissing. Yes, I do condemn arse kissers, but I learned if I can’t beat them, I might as well TRY to be like that. I can play the game too you know. Besides, I need a job promotion and an increment.

Life is not cheap and money does not grow on trees.

I am intrigued - what exactly is it you do? Perhaps I am thick and just don't understand what this timer business is?!

I am in the hospitality industry. The timer is a task in a Toastmaster's Club meeting and the timer have to make sure that whoever talking does it within the time given. Say a particular speech and the time give in five minutes. the timer will then light the green light after three minutes, yellow after four and finally the red light after five minutes. this is to make sure the meeting ends of time. some people could just go and on without realizing the time.

I thought that may be the case. I can't believe that meetings have to be conducted in that manner!

LOL. I am happy to say this is not for the hotel meeting. this is a toastmasters club meeting. toastmasters club are basically a club where one learns to improve their communication and presentation skills. In a meeting we have different sessions like the Q&A sessions to train the mind ans skills for impromptu answers and the speeches session where each members presents speeches as per their level/progress. the hotel sponsors the club to train their staffs to be more eloquent and fluent in english.

Thinking about it, that's a really good idea. in England meetings just sort of flow. If it says 10am start it will start ontime and finish on time. Any urgent matters are discussed first and meeting is adjourned if necessary - but rarely the case.

Which hotel do you work for?

in this part of the world, you're lucky if the meeting starts or finish in time. it's a culture to drag meetings with topics that has nothing to do with the meeting in the first place.

i work with Sutera Harbour Resort in Kota Kinabalu. have you heard of us before? the tourism malaysia is aggresively promoting Visit Malaysia Year 2007.

where are you from anyway?

Yes I am very familiar with Malaysian culture - think it's an Asian thing...for not running on time!

I do know Sutera, I'm half Malaysian from KK live in England at the moment.
